This is where I talk about me. Hi!
I love painting. I always enjoyed drawing women's faces. As a young girl, my dream was to do the illustrations on sewing patterns. Instead I followed a more 'rational' path and received a business degree and worked in the corporate world for several years. I took art classes on the side...even taught art to children but, never seriously thought of a career as an artist.
I felt an inner urge to start painting as part of my worship to God. It seemed to be a rather obscure thought but, I began to paint and draw more regularly and pray and sing while I was doing it. If you saw some of my early work, you would want to pray too! And, if you heard me sing you might just become a convert if you thought it would stop me. Before I knew it, my art and my worship become intertwined and I began to feel God's pleasure as I painted.
I think I single handedly supported the retail art economy in the greater Seattle area. My husband "gently" (shall we use that term loosely?) encouraged me to spend less money or start selling paintings. I opted for the latter and I started to sell my work at art festivals up and down the west coast.
I've had wonderful success (Well, I know that is a 'relative' thing...but, all my relatives think I'm a great success!) I've been blessed to be a part of a thriving art community in the pacific northwest. I paint regularly with crazy artist friends. My husband and son are my biggest supporters. And...I feel like I am doing what I was created for.
I've always loved to paint people eating, drinking and waxing philosophical about life. Many of my best childhood memories involve my family and friends doing just that around the kitchen table. Food is a muse to me and I love to paint restaurants, bars, coffee stands etc. Lately, I've also wanted to paint comtemplative pieces as well. I want to paint eternal things, universal things...capturing God's pursuit of us amidst the dailyness of our lives. As my dear father has become ill, I've found myself drawn to painting older people, looking back on their lives...I also enjoy painting
couples in love, single people , joy and lonliness.... It is all part of the
human condition. All of it is beautiful to me.
This year I won't be participating in as many art festivals as normal. I'm concentrating on studying oils, painting portraits from life and giving myself the time off to pursue these things. I will have a booth at the Bellevue festival as well as the Sausalito festival. You can find out more information about those festivals in the "Events" section of my website. If you are in the neighborhood, come by and say, "Hi".
Cheers! Patty
